What it is and what it is used for

5-MTHF is the active, already-converted form of folate, useful for people whose bodies convert folic acid poorly. Folate is required for DNA synthesis and repair, for normal homocysteine metabolism, and — before and during early pregnancy — for normal neural tube development.

How to use

One capsule daily, or as directed by your prescriber.

Be aware of

Folate can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency while nerve damage continues — have your B12 checked, and tell your doctor you are taking this if you are being investigated for anaemia. It interacts with methotrexate, sulfasalazine and some anti-epileptic medicines. If you are planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor which strength is right for you.
