What it is and what it is used for

Betaine hydrochloride is a source of hydrochloric acid, taken with meals by people whose stomach acid is low. Adequate stomach acid is needed to break down protein and to absorb minerals such as iron, calcium and B12.

How to use

One capsule with a protein-containing meal, or as directed by your prescriber.

Be aware of

Do not use if you have, or have had, a stomach or duodenal ulcer, gastritis, reflux oesophagitis, or if you take an anti-inflammatory (such as ibuprofen), a steroid, or an acid-suppressing medicine such as omeprazole or ranitidine. Stop immediately and see a doctor if you feel burning, pain or worsening reflux. Low stomach acid should be confirmed by your prescriber before you start.
