What it is and what it is used for

Activated charcoal has a large adsorptive surface that binds gases and certain substances in the digestive tract. It is used for occasional bloating, wind and digestive discomfort.

How to use

One capsule as needed, or as directed by your prescriber. Drink plenty of water.

Be aware of

Activated charcoal reduces the absorption of medicines, including the oral contraceptive pill, and of vitamins and minerals. Take it at least two hours apart from any other medicine or supplement, and use additional contraception if you are on the pill. Not for continuous daily use. Do not use if you have a bowel obstruction or slow bowel transit. It will turn the stools black, which is harmless. This product is for digestive comfort only — in a suspected poisoning or overdose, call an emergency service or the Poisons Information Helpline immediately and do not attempt to self-treat.
